The music awards is the biggest night on the Kiwi entertainment calendar and a not-to-miss event where fans and stars celebrate the best of local New Zealand music.

The 2009 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards will be hosted by C4’s Dai Henwood and will again be packed with stunning performances and a few surprises. Come join the fun when the red carpet is rolled out at Vector Arena in Auckland on October 8.

The awards presented at the Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards 2009 ceremony are:

  • Steinlager Pure Best Group
  • Best Male Solo Artist
  • Mazda Best Female Solo Artist
  • Pacific Blue Breakthrough Artist of the Year
  • C4 Best Music Video
  • Vodafone People’s Choice
  • PPNZ Best Rock Album
  • 42Below Best Urban / Hip Hop Album
  • Kiwi FM Best Aotearoa Roots Album
  • New Zealand Herald Legacy Award
  • Best Dance / Electronica Album
  • Best Gospel / Christian Album
  • Best Classical Album

Budding stars will be able to grab a chance at winning a wide collection of awards at this highly anticipated event. The prestigious Vodafone Album of the Year category includes The Mint Chicks (Screens), Midnight Youth (The Brave Don’t Run), Ladyhawke (Ladyhawke), Cut Off Your Hands (You And I), and Fat Freddy’s Drop (Dr Boondigga and the Big BW).

Music Awards Finalists

Midnight Youth, Ladyhawke and Smashproof dominate the finalists list for the 2009 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards. Midnight Youth and Ladyhawke are finalists in six categories, Smashproof in five, and The Mint Chicks and Fat Freddy’s Drop in four.

Ladyhawke, Midnight Youth and Smashproof are also finalists in the Vodafone Single of the Year category for their singles ‘My Delerium’, ´All On Our Own’ and ‘Brother’ respectively. P-Money featuring Vince Harder (Everything) and Kids of 88 (Our House) round out the category finalists.

Get going to Vector Arena

Earlybird Tickets cost NZ$37 plus booking fees. Red carpet activities start at 4pm on October 8 at Vector Arena, 34 Mahuhu Crescent, Parnell, Auckland. The event officially begins at 7pm. For those who miss out on tickets to the awards, the action will screen “as live” on C4, October 8, from 8.30pm.

Free buses to the awards will also be available for the general public with Auckland City putting on two 49-seater coaches that will transport the public to Vector Arena from Victoria Street (opposite Sky City), Town Hall and Queen Street. Buses will operate from 4pm to 6pm and will be making at least two to three trips from central city to Vector.

Fans can be there for all the pre-event activity with C4 and The Edge to see NZ’s music talents hitting the red carpet. The Edge will be on board the buses providing entertainment and during the bus ride Auckland City will be giving away15x double GA passes to the VNZMA show. Other spot prizes from several sponsors of the VNZMA's will also be given out.
